Are Your Words Sabotaging You?

You might not realize it but your words may be sabotaging you. For example, when someone asks you “what do you do?” do you answer, “I am JUST a stay at home mom”, or “I am just a salesperson”, or “I am just a Production Assistant” or “It’s only a part time job” or “It’s only a small group I manage”, or ‘I just work with kids”.
The words “JUST” and "ONLY” when used in that context minimize you - and you are devaluing yourself and communicating to others to do the same. You are essentially saying to others “I am not important, my work is not important”. Is that what you want to communicate? I don’t think so. So stop using those words.
Instead drop the words, “JUST” and “ONLY” and say proudly, “I am a stay at home mom”. “I work in Sales”. I AM the Production Assistant”. “I work a part-time job”. “It’s a small, great group I manage”. Words are powerful in both positive and negative ways. So be mindful and remove words and phrases that devalue you.
